Behind the Scenes: What It’s REALLY Like to Work With an IEP Advocate (Like Me)

May 09, 2025

Let’s pull back the curtain for a minute.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work with an IEP advocate (like me) let me tell you…

My number one priority is getting your child the services and support they need as fast as possible.

Not eventually.

Not “someday.”

Now.

Because while a lot of advocates will tell you to file an OCR (Office for Civil Rights) complaint when a school isn’t following IDEA, here’s the hard truth:

Those complaints take months—sometimes longer—to be acknowledged.

Why?

Because those agencies are underfunded, understaffed, and triaging claims like it’s a disaster zone (because, honestly, it kind of is).

Meanwhile, your child is sitting in a classroom waiting.

Losing critical time.

Falling further behind.

And that is unacceptable to me.

So here’s what you need to know:

When you hire me, you're hiring someone who will use every ounce of strategy, knowledge, and creativity to get your child results now, not just play the paperwork game while the system drags its feet.

I’m not here to attend five meetings and smile politely while we wait on a government agency to “get their shit together.”

I’m here for impact—not income.

I don’t measure success by how many hours I logged on Zoom with you.

I measure it by how quickly your child finally gets the services they’ve needed all along.

Sometimes that means taking a less traditional route.

Sometimes it means pushing hard in ways that don’t show up in a complaint form.

Sometimes it means finding quick wins so we can get your child some momentum right now.

That’s the strategy. That’s the urgency. That’s the heart behind what I do.

So if you’re hiring me, know this:

I’m all in.

But I’m not here to wait on systems that don’t work. I’m here to make them work for your child—however we can, with whatever we’ve got.
